Nick Hunt – Secretary to the Panel
Nick Hunt is a Senior Civil Servant and was appointed as Secretary to the Panel in January 2020. He was previously Head of the Serious Violence Unit (previously Tackling Crime Unit) in the Home Office from 2014. He had lead responsibility for the Serious Violence Strategy and delivery of its commitments including the Early Intervention Youth Fund, the Offensive Weapons Act, and a wide range of action on knife crime, county lines, firearms and acid attacks.
Nick held the post of Director of Strategy and Policy in the Crown Prosecution Service from 2010 to 2014 where he had responsibility for a wide range of criminal justice issues including reforming court processes and charging issues. He oversaw the Code for Crown Prosecutors published in 2013 and introduced a range of new prosecution policies. Nick has also held different posts in the Ministry of Justice and its predecessor departments in areas such as legal aid and court reform.
